SHOCKING NEW LAW: $77.50 PARKING TICKETS for THIS? (AB 413 EXPLAINED!)
Justin Isaac was on KUSI Saturday, March 1st talking about the new law with regards to pedestrian safety at crosswalks. Whether marked or unmarked, you cannot park within 20 feet of the crosswalk corner. This is creating some ambiguity, these areas are not currently clearly marked, and people are already being ticketed. Without clear markings, or carrying a tape measure with you, how are you going to know what falls within twenty feet? Justin states that it would be nice for California to clearly mark in red to remove the guesswork. How strict are they going to be? It sounds like counties may have some liberty to adjust the range.
It’s also going to reduce already limited available parking as a result, quite unfortunate. There’s a lot of construction going on in areas where available parking is already limited. Even a space in front of your house, if it also fits this 20-foot rule, you can also get a ticket there.
How much litigation is this going to create? It’s already agitating people. Pedestrian safety is important, but will this specific law and circumstance make a significant impact?
