An Easter Battle
People are upset about not being able to get their authentic Cadbury eggs this year. This is due to a lawsuit from Hershey (an American company) that says Cadbury (a British based company) is infringing on their trademark. Hershey is putting a stop the import of the popular Easter candy, among others.
What Makes Cadbury So Much Better?
Essentially, there is twice is much cocoa in authentic Cadbury eggs. In America, manufactures must only include 10% cocoa, while in Europe it must be at least 20%. This leaves a lot of Cadbury enthusiasts upset about having to settle for half the amount of cocoa. They are taking their anger out by refusing to purchase other Hershey products.
Many Americans and Europeans are banning Hershey products in protest.
Hershey’s Trademark Laws
Hershey is claiming that many of Cadbury’s candies look too similar to Hershey candy. If this is the case, then this would be considered trademark infringement.
The Bottom Line?
This year, you don’t have the option of buying British made Cadbury eggs – unless you fly to Europe.
